BELIEVE IT OR NOT: Teachers Remain

On the fifteenth of April, Waukegan High school will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Teacher Cemetery in the Brookside

Courtyard

The tradition started when an elderly teacher, who couldn’t bear to part with the school, instructed in her will that she be buried in the Courtyard. Ever since then, principals and teachers alike have purchased plots in the courtyard. (See above.) To date, there are seventeen residents of the Brookside Courtyard Cemetery. In order to honor the time they spent teaching at WHS, and their dedication to Waukegan even in the after life, administrators will be hosting a BBQ and a lawn dart tournament in the courtyard itself. The entrance fee will be one dollar, and the prize for the tournament winner will be a free grave plot in the Brookside Cemetery.
