Most people would describe senior Ivan Almazo as talented. A portrait of Ray Bradbury drawn by Ivan won him 1st place at Waukegan Public Library’s annual Ray Bradbury Creative Contest. Ivan was competing with anybody and anyone in the category for high school students. Ivan also recently won Best Drawing at Waukegan High School’s own art show. “I receive[d] medals and certifications for both drawings, [but] I felt bad because I did my portraits overnight, and many others took [more] time.” Ivan’s AP Art class, has helped him find out about a lot of contests: “I’m looking forward to [being in] more art shows,” he says. Ivan was inspired at a young age by his older brother who also used to draw, and now is into graphic design.
